Artwork Requirements For DTF Digital Transfers

Last Updated: Thursday 9th April 2026

Your artwork is very important. If the design is low quality, chances are, the finished print will also be. If you need help with anything in this section. Send us an email or give us a call, and we will be glad to guide you.

The following information is technical in nature. If you are not sure what this means, please send us the best file you have, and we will look at it and advise what you will need to do. We are only too happy to help you.

The best file to use is a "vector" file. This can be saved in .ai, .eps or .pdf format*. This will ensure the DTF comes out as crisp and clear as possible.

We may be able to use a PNG file, at 300 DPI, at print size, that has a transparent background. The transparent background is very important, so we do not print a coloured box around the artwork. Remember that if the png looks fuzzy/pixelated on  your computer screen, it will most likely print with way with the resultant DTF.

Further tips:

  • Re: text - for text to be readable, we recommend the font to be no smaller than 5mmH
  • Re: front chest prints: usual size is 75mm-95mmW in total

What are Vector Graphics?
Vector graphics are composed in programs like Adobe Illustrator, Corel DRAW, Macromedia Freehand or Inkscape.

The following information is technical in nature, if you are not sure what this means, please send us the best file you have an we will be glad to help you.

What are Pixel Graphics?
Pixel graphics are composed in programs like Adobe Photoshop®, CorelPHOTOPAINT or Microsoft Paint.

  • For quality results, we recommend using Adobe Photoshop® files (.PSD) or files that support a transparent background, like .PNG or .GIF.
  • Be sure to back up your original file and make the following changes to a copy of that original file.
  • Resize your image to the size you want on your t-shirt. Your image must be 100% to print size.
Max Image Size (Front or Back) is 32cm(W) X 35cm(H); however, this may not be possible on some t-shirts.
  • We will say it again, your image size should be 100%. If you are not sure of the size, your artwork should always be larger rather than smaller. Minimising the design is possible without losing image quality; however, when you make enlargements, your designs will appear "pixilated".
  • Your file should be set at 300dpi resolution.
  • Remove any background layers that are NOT to be printed.
  • Save your image (as a copy) .PNG, ready to email to us.

* PLEASE NOTE:
You can not just convert a pixel (.png, .jpg) based image into an EPS or PDF format. It's still a pixel based image and is not a true vector. The file needs to be re-drawn into a true vector format.

If you are unable to provide the artwork required by TSPA, please contact our office; our staff should be able to help you. TSPA operates its own artwork and design service that may be used if necessary. Artwork and/or artwork adjustments are charged at a rate of $77.00+GST per hour or part thereof.
